History Of Persians & Himalayans
One Kitten Just Leads To Another...

Named after their country of origin, "Persia", these gentle creatures with their long flowing coats and open pansy-like faces once traveled across the deserts and were treasured as beautiful companions equal to the jewels their guardians had tucked away...Held in such high regard, the humans graced by their presence, included these incredible creatures in their hieroglyphic as far back as 1684 B.C.

Many changes have evolved since then to bring us to the Persian Breed Standards of today. There are currently 7 divisions of this very special, 'the Persian', breed:

*Solid Color Division

*Silver and Golden Division

*Shaded and Smoke Division

*Tabby Division

*Particolor Division

*Bicolor Division

*Himalayan Division

Though Solids came first, they are no more and no less beautiful than the most recent division of the Himalayan's, each division has it's own special and unique attributes and also individual and very important contributions that have brought them all as a whole to where there are today~and there is something about each division that capture's the eye of the public, thus making the 'Persian' the most popular and sought after breed of all...

The Himalayan~Few other cats in history have enchanted cat lover's the way the Himalayan's have. Siamese in color, Persian in type~the  combination that began in the 1940's have culminated into today's magnificent creatures. However, the Himalayan is NOT a long haired Siamese, simple crosses do not make a breed. It took decades and dedicated breeders making very selective choices between Siamese and Persians to finally produce Himalayans. In December of 1957 the CFA first accepted the Himalayan's as their own seperate 'long haired' breed.  They began appearing in the show rings in the 1970's and continued to improve, while at a slow pace, into the 1980's. It wasn't until 1984 that the CFA Board Of Directors elected to move the Himalayan from it's seperate breed status into a division of the Persian breed. A "Himmy", as it is affectionately known, is a Persian with a pointed color pattern, or Color Point Carrier (CPC). What you call the breed depends on personal choice or registry membership, but, whatever the name, the fact remains that they are a strikingly beautiful, and colorful, long haired Persian with a lot of personality to entertain their families.
